Bart Lovins has had success in New York as a producer, director and playwright – not only as Co-Founder of Spinning Graves Productions and as the guiding force behind of Expanded Arts' "Sherlock Holmes Series" but of a multitude of other projects as well including The 20th Anniversary Production of The Elephant Man, and the critically acclaimed Off-Broadway productions The X-mas Files and Peer Gynt.
He is currently the Director of Hardin County Schools Performing Arts Center (PAC). Constructed in 2001, the PAC is not only a unique component of the Hardin County Schools, it is unique in the nation as one of a handful of Performing Arts Centers designed and operated by theatre professionals but owned by a public school system. As such, the Kentucky Arts Council, the Southern Arts Federation, the National Endowment for the Arts have all rewarded it for its contributions to the students and community of Hardin County. In 2002, The PAC was recognize by the Kennedy Center as one of eleven demonstration sites nationwide as part of their Community Audit for Arts Education. At the 2003 Arts Education Partnership meeting in Washington, DC, Mr. Lovins was selected to serve as a lead presenter at a breakout session to discuss the success of the PAC’s programming.
He continues to explore professional artistic endeavors in his free time away from the PAC including performing in Greater Tuna at Beef & Boards Dinner Theater, directing Grease for Stephen Foster Drama, Inc.
Mr. Lovins has a BFA in Performing Arts from Western Kentucky University with studies in Great Britain and Paris, Interned at Stage One: Louisville’s Children’s Theatre and studied with Tim Conway, Tom Poston, James Kirkwood and the National Shakespeare Company.
He is a member of Actors Equity Association, Kentucky Arts Presenters Network, Association of Performing Arts Presenters, Arts Education Partnership and Rotary International and has been recognized as a Hardin County Schools Distinguished Alumni and as a KMEA Friend of Music.
Performing credits include “Seymour” in Little Shop of Horrors, "Rooster" in Annie, "Eddie Cantor" in Whoopee!, "Judas" in Jesus Christ Superstar, "Oscar the Grouch" with Sesame Street LIVE! and his one-man show, Bart's Box. He can be heard on the original cast recordings of The Lone Star, A Farmer Weds A Widow and The Thrill of It All!
Additional directing credits include outdoor productions of The Aracoma Story, Li’l Abner, and Oklahoma! and indoor productions of The Little Prince, Uncle Vanya, and every fall’s PAC ProAm Musical.
A Rineyville native, Bart comes to the PAC as part of a successful and varied theatre career for over twenty five years. He holds a BFA in Performing Arts from WKU, has interned at Stage One: Louisville’s Children’s Theatre and has studied with Tim Conway, Tom Poston, James Kirkwood and the National Shakespeare Company among others. He was a guest presenter for the 2003 National Arts Education Partnership and is a member of Actors Equity Association, Kentucky Arts Presenters Network, Arts Kentucky, Association of Performing Arts Presenters, Arts Education Partnership and Rotary International. He was recently recognized as the KMEA 2009 Friend of Music and as a 2009 Hardin County Distinguished Alumni.
